Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) increased slightly to $3.79 billion, well ahead of analysts' predictions for EBIT of $3.16 billion. With Thursday's results, management shows it is playing to win and that the fourth quarter was an outlier. Strong profitability and cash flow generation overall in the second quarter provided the much-needed offset. Quarterly commentary Ford Blue, which represents Ford's gas-powered and hybrid vehicles, delivered a strong quarter and was again profitable in every region in which it operates. By segment, Ford expects Ford Blue to deliver full year EBIT of "about $8 billion," up from about $7 billion, and Ford Pro's EBIT to be "approaching $8 billion," up from $6 billion.

Though, Ford CEO Jim Farley made it clear Tuesday that he would not price his electric vehicles purely to gain market share. But with execution improving and our patience paid for through the roughly 5% dividend yield, we are sticking by Ford. Ford expects Ford Blue to deliver full year EBIT of about $7 billion, Ford Model e to report a loss of around $3 billion, and Ford Pro's EBIT to be around $6 billion. Ford Chief Financial Officer John Lawler rationalized the expected losses on a call with reporters by explaining that Ford Model e exists as an "EV startup within Ford." As part of this restructuring, Ford created Model e, the EV division, Ford Blue, the gas-powered vehicle division, and Ford Pro, the commercial vehicle division. For now, Ford says, its Blue and Pro divisions will be driving profits while Model e loses money. While Model e is slated to lose money this year, Ford provided profitable projections for its Blue and Pro divisions this year. For 2023, Ford Blue is expected to earn about $7 billion for the company, while Ford Pro's earnings before taxes are expected to near $6 billion, the company said Thursday.
But perhaps their real battle will happen with electric delivery vans. "But the electrification of the commercial vehicle market," he said, "I think is underappreciated." Now, government support through incentives has bolstered EV momentum, and as a result, companies looking for electric fleets will only ask for more. How electric delivery van-makers plan to nail this downFord and GM's inherent advantages over rivals include name recognition, robust supply bases, and ample resources. "We've seen over the decades how strong brand loyalty is in the commercial vehicle segment," said AutoPacific analyst Robby DeGraff.
The news DHL will acquire 2,000 Ford E-Transit cargo vans by the end of 2023, the companies announced Monday. DHL— owned by Germany's Deutsche Post — said it has already received some of the E-Transit vans, adding them its global fleet of roughly 27,000 electric vans. Ford has sold roughly 5,800 E-Transit vans through November , and the vehicle has become the top-selling commercial vehicle in North America, according to the company. One of those is called Telematics, the official name for the fleet management software DHL will use under Monday's deal. Ford says Transit Trail owners will have access to the Ford Pro network of upfitters and interior installers to create the interior space they desire. The Detroit automaker on Thursday revealed the 2023 Ford Transit Trail Van, a new lifted model of its full-size van equipped with all-wheel-drive and more durable, off-road parts for outdoor enthusiasts. Ford is touting the Transit Trail Van as a gateway into "van life," a community of travelers who fully or partially live in their vehicles. The 2023 Ford Transit Trail Van will go on sale in the spring, starting at $65,975. That's about $15,000 more than a base passenger Transit van.
